What is Senpai?

Senpai ry (earlier name Turun Animeseura ry, TAS) was established in the beginning of the year 2000 and our goal is to promote the knowledge of Japanese animation (anime) and comics (manga) as a hobby. Another goal is to advance the communication and interaction between people with interest in the Japanese popular culture.

Senpai has arranged Finland’s first Animecon and its members do a lot of volunteering at different anime events in Finland.

Senpai is a member of Finlands Anime union, Suomen Animeunioni, and an subsidiary association of Student union of the University of Turku.

Everyone interested in Japanese popular culture is welcome to join Senpai as a member. The membership fee is 5 euro’s per year (from January till December) and as a member you can take part in all our events and get to use our library freely. You can join Senpai at any time of the year, but we recommend joining at the beginning of the year, so that you get the most out of the benefits.

After joining and paying your membership fee of 5 euro’s, the members get a membership card. We’re proud to say that Senpai has the most various perks of all the Finnish anime clubs. You get a lot of discounts at different shops from our partners and you can check them out here. You can join at the new Terrakoti or at some of our events! ^_^

If you have any questions, you can contact our board through email: seele [at] lists [dot] utu [dot] fi.

Activities

Senpai ry holds different kind of events for and with its members:

we’re every week at our office in the new Terrakoti. You can catch us there every second Monday from 5PM to 6PM and every second Friday from 6PM onwards. For specific times and dates, check our calendar on the side bar and our news feed. We also have our own manga library and our members can lend the books and magazines in the collection or read them at Terrakoti. You can find the list of books on the Toiminta tab. So to sum it up, the new Terrakoti is more of our shared living room than an office.

At the video viewing sessions we check out different anime series, usually with a certain theme or genre and we also hold marathon viewing sessions, where we spend a longer time watching a specific series.

On every second Friday we have the new Terrakoti to ourselves, so we hold events with different themes. Earlier events have been for example playing console games, practicing Go and making cat ears. If you’d like to take part in a specific event, you can send us ideas through our feedback form.
